When you vote for Loan Stars good things happen
September 1, 2016 10:25 amHave you been thinking about participating in Loan Stars but haven’t cast your first vote yet? Wondering why you should? Well, when you nominate a book for Loan Stars, good things happen for you and for others (because we like to be generous like that).
So, what are these good things we speak of?
- Access to free books! We’re working to make sure that Canadian library staff have access to advance reader copies (ARCs) of forthcoming books. You can get advanced copies from services such as NetGalley and many publishers are allowing library staff to directly request titles they want to read through CataList. Be sure to sign in to see all of the titles.
- You get an awesome feeling when you do your part to promote a book or author you love. This is a chance to use your influence and amazing editorial taste to promote up-and-coming authors you think are worthy of buzz, get more eyes on diverse titles, or even just really champion an underrated book that you know people will love. You are a book warrior and casting a vote for Loan Stars is how you roar!
- You help colleagues and patrons by contributing to a list of books that has been curated exclusively by library staff. When people don’t know what to read next, you have a handy list of titles chosen by you and your fellow library friends to recommend to them. No one will leave your library without their next great read!
- Contests, contests, and more contests. We have already given away a lot of awesome free stuff to library staff who vote, and we have a stack of books that are just about to go into the mail for another lucky winner. We have a lot of fun running these contests and want to keep doing them in the future, but you need to vote to win.
How do you vote?
It’s free and easy. Go to BNC CataList and be sure to log in (click “register” if you don’t have an account and we’ll get you signed up). On all forthcoming adult titles, you will see a “Vote!” button.
The “Read Me” button allows you to see whether you can request the title at NetGalley or directly from the publisher.
Log in to CataList, find new books, and give it a try. The more library staff we have participating, the better the lists. As we always like to say: Read, Vote, Repeat.
